I spent about a month with the book, know it fairly well inside and out. I have done all of the exercises on different setups different machines, virtual environments many times until I could almost do them with my eyes closed.
Took the test and failed by two questions.
I wouldn’t entirely blame the book and here are my reasons. As we all know the certification tests are continuously updated. I’m sure at the time of this book’s release it matched the questions on the exam well. The exam I took demonstrated the weakness of the book I wasn’t ready for: The exam had, literally, almost twenty questions on BranchCache. The coverage on BranchCache in this book is extremely small and only sufficient to answer some of the questions.
Accessing remote machines with PowerShell. PowerShell is mentioned in the book, nothing more. The only topics that were covered well enough for the exam were the Remote Desktop Protocol and Remote Assistance. After calling Prometric a couple days later I was able to get my report card and sure enough, I had every area perfect or near perfect except for the previously mentioned areas.
Do I blame the book? I wouldn’t as the book really does cover a lot of material and I would recommend it for anyone. I’m confident the book matched the exam well when it came out but comparing the material to the test I just recently took it is clear that this book should be used with another source and not by itself like a lot of the reviews claim though to be fair some of the reviews are around the book’s publishing date and do not think the commenters were naive at the time of their posted date.
The Kaplan Selftest and MeasureUp practice tests were also a vital part of my preparation. The Microsoft exams are much harder now, and you will not pass the exam by using any single study resource, including this book. However, this Poulton text is a good starting point, but it must be combined with many other resources, including hands-on experience, if you really want to pass the test.

One of the shortcomings of this text is the dearth of end-of-chapter questions and practical exercises. The trivial little “Memory Tables” at the end of chapter do not compensate for this in any way. In this regard, I found the Microsoft Press text to be superior, since it provided both questions and practical exercises in each chapter. That’s why I started off with the Microsoft text exam objectives 1 and 2until I got frustrated by poulyon plethora of errors.
Then I switched to the Poulton, and used it for exam objectives 3 to 8, so this became my primary text. Now I want to complain.
I think that people should be prevented from rating an exam preparation text on Amazon unless they actually used it to prepare for an exam. This would reduce the proliferation of 5-star ratings poulon texts that people have never read, but “received in good condition” or “received on time” and so on, thus making the reviews infinitely more useful to everyone.
Sadly, however, there is no practical way I know of to enforce this. In conclusion, of the texts currently 70-60 for the exam, this would be my preference, considering, however, that it should not be your only exam resource. I will start by saying that this book is an excellent resource and covers the majority of the subject matter needed for exam success. With that being said, by using this book alone it may prove difficult but possible to pass the exam.
I would recommend this book as a primary source of study to be pouoton along with other resources such as videos and practice tests. Additionally it is extremely helpful that the reader perform any procedures described in the book in an actual Windows 7 installation or follow along as they read through the book.
If you score well on the practice test in this book you should do 70–680 on the actual exam. Overall, this doon was money well spent and proved to be a key resource when preparing for the exam, highly recommended! See all 70680 reviews. There’s a problem loading this menu right now.
